Young Writers' Debut Competition
Realize Your Dream of Publishing
a Book on Hong Kong!

Sun Hung Kai Properties established the SHKP Book Club last year to promote reading and encourage a passion for writing in Hong Kong. We are holding this competition in collaboration with Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) to help talented young writers realize the dream of seeing their first book in print. Competition finalists will have the benefit of advice from mentors recruited from the local literary scene as they finish their work.

Theme

 Hong Kong
Format Fiction / nonfiction / prose / poetry etc, illustrated or not. (Entrants can also submit a multi-media accompaniment with their manuscripts.)
Eligibility Never-before published authors aged 30 and under.
Text Chinese, ten to fifty thousand words (punctuation is inclusive).

To Enter

  1. Submit a book proposal with overall goal, target readership and a sample of about five percent of the content, plus samples of artwork, illustrations etc, if any.
  2. Ten entrants will be selected to finish their books with the help of competition mentors.
  3. Three to eight finished works will be selected for publication and distribution.

Prizes

Young Writer awards: three to eight winners will get publishing contracts with Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) and royalties.

Ten finalists will receive HK$5,000 each.

Schedule

Preliminary Competition Closing Date: October 31, 2006
Results Announcement: December 18, 2006

Final Competition

Closing Date: March 31, 2007
Results Announcement: April 2007

Result will be posted on this web site and winners will be notified individually.

All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
