Chris Patten, the politician-turned-writer

Sun Hung Kai Properties strives to promote reading through SHKP Book Club. Hong Kong's last colonial governor Chris Patten has remained a favourite figure among Hong Kong people. He is often remembered for his friendly smiles and his love for freshly-baked hot egg tarts. Patten is not only a successful politician. When it comes to writing, he is no less marvelous. The latest literary magazine has a cover story with Patten and local political writer Ivan Choy Chi-keung talking about political writings and reading in general. There is also the interview of well-known news photographer Lau Heung-shing, who is among a rising number of news photographers permanently stationed in China. In the story, Lau talks about how he captures China's changes with his camera and pictures. In another story, Yu Hua, author of Brothers, talks about his writing career.

The Book Club's second Young Writers' Debut Competition organized in collaboration with Joint Publishing is continuing. The magazine has a story on one of the judges of the contest, Shu Kei, who talks about his own writing experience as an example for young writers to follow.

The magazine is distributed for free at 120 bookstores and 19 SHKP malls in Hong Kong and available at all schools and public libraries.
